On the 3rd and 4th July 2024, the Eco-Gozo Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning organized a two-day workshop focused on two technologies currently being implemented in Gozo as part of the MED-WET project: Self-regulating Low Energy Clay-based Irrigation (SLECI) and the Solar Desalination Greenhouse (SDGH).
SLECI is a subsurface irrigation system using the soil’s suction force for water release, which is simple to produce and install, making it suitable for rural areas and efficient in water and energy use.
SDGH integrates solar energy, vertical farming, and water desalination to convert brackish water into freshwater suitable for irrigation using halophytes.
These workshops provided training for multipliers and farmers through presentations, online sessions, and site visits to facilitate the implementation of these technologies in Gozo.
