Scheme for Eco-Gozo projects by Local Councils
The Ministry for Gozo launched a funding scheme for EcoGozo projects by Local Councils. Through this scheme, Local Councils and Administrative Committees benefited from a grant of up to €70,000 for projects which enhance the sustainability of their locality.
The ecoGozo vision is based on the target of achieving high sustainable development standards for our island. Local councils represent communities at a local level. They are positioned well to respond to the needs of the localities they administer, ensuring that action for the improvement of their community’s quality of life is effective. Therefore, the Ministry for Gozo provided the opportunity for Local Councils to engage directly in the implementation of the eco-Gozo project, and more specifically in the short-term measures identified in the document “Eco-Gozo: A better Gozo Proposed action 2010-2012”. This scheme was launched on the 23 of November 2010.
In August, the Ministry for Gozo launched the second call in relation to the funding scheme for eco-Gozo projects by local councils. Local Councils that have not benefited under the first call or those who did not benefit from the maximum grant of €70,000 under the first call, had the opportunity to apply for the funding of projects which will enhance the sustainability of their locality.
